SUNNYVALE, CA, Feb 01, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) today announced that one of the world's leading IPv6 experts, Alain Durand, will address the V6 World Congress 2011 in Paris on Feb. 9. Durand, director of software engineering at Juniper Networks, will offer a long-term, strategic view of the world's IP addressing landscape and position the near-term IPv4 address depletion issue within a continuum of evolving IPv4/IPv6 addressing.

A leader on IPv6 issues since 1993, Durand is the inventor of the Dual Stack-Lite (DS-Lite) network address translation (NAT) solution to allow IPv4 and IPv6 addressing to coexist on carrier networks and has authored numerous Request for Comments (RFCs) and Internet-Drafts. He now serves as the co-chair of both the IETF Softwires and Port Control Protocol (PCP) working groups, which focuses on how applications will evolve to accommodate IPv4 address exhaustion and IPv6 address adoption.

Juniper Networks has supported IPv6 forwarding in silicon since its first product shipment, and has supported high-performance IPv6 networking since 2001. In addition, with seven of the world's top 10 service providers having deployed or in trials with Juniper's Carrier Grade Network Address Translation (CGNAT) solutions, Juniper has a decade-long history of industry leadership in developing networking and security technologies that will keep networks running after IPv4 address supply is depleted.

At the V6 World Congress, Durand will present "From an IPv4 Global Internet to a Mix of IPv4 NATed and IPv6 World" at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 11. Preceding this, he will host a panel of service provider technologists at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9. The V6 World Congress, co-located with the MPLS+Ethernet World Congress, will occur at the Rive Gauche Marriott Hotel and Conference Centre, Paris.
