U.S. Defense Department Certifies 15 Juniper Networks Routers for Deployment in Department of Defense Networks

Solutions to Be Deployed for Mission Critical, Real-Time Services, Including Voice, Video and Data Communications

SUNNYVALE, CA, May 11, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) today announced that 15 of its custom edge router solutions have been tested and certified by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) for interoperability with Defense Department networks and have been added to the Unified Capabilities Approved Product List (UC APL).

This most recent certification from the JITC includes Juniper Networks(R) J Series Services Routers, SRX Series Services Gateways, M Series Routers and MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers. This certification allows Juniper Networks routers to be deployed by the various military services to carry converged mission critical, real-time services such as voice, video and data communications. The breadth of the Juniper Networks router portfolio will allow the DoD to address network needs with improved efficiency and flexibility.

JITC interoperability testing and certification are required by the U.S. Department of Defense for all networking devices supporting real-time services. The Unified Capabilities Approved Product List certification process ensures products are capable of meeting the demanding security requirements to connect to the Defense Information Systems Network and open standards-based interoperability with Defense Department Networks.

"This round of JITC certifications demonstrates our commitment to providing a robust portfolio of network solutions that meet the highest level of connectivity standards," said Brian Roach, vice president, Federal, Juniper Networks. "Juniper Networks has a proven ability to ensure that critical government communications are delivered with high QoS, even in the face of network congestion."

These router certifications follow other recently announced JITC certifications of Juniper Networks solutions. The Juniper Networks EX3200 and EX4200 Ethernet Switches; MX240, MX480 and MX960 Universal Edge Routers; and the CTP 1000 and 2000 Series circuit-to-packet solutions received certification in August 2010. Additionally, Juniper Networks SA Series SSL VPN solutions were previously certified for interoperability with Defense Department Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) requirements.

The J Series routers provide up to a Gigabit Ethernet performance for enterprise remote, branch and regional offices. They run the modular Junos(R) operating system which offers many advanced services (MPLS, IPv6, QoS, multicast) and security (stateful firewall and IPsec VPN). The J Series routers ease deployment and reduce operational costs by integrating key branch location services such as routing, security, and IP telephony into one easy-to-operate platform.

The SRX Series Services Gateways are high-performance security, routing and network solutions for enterprise and service providers. SRX gateways pack high port-density, advanced security, and flexible connectivity, into a single, easily managed platform that supports fast, secure, and highly-available, data center and branch operations. SRX Series Service Gateways are based on Junos, Juniper Networks' proven operating system which delivers security and advanced protection services, the foundation of the world's largest networks. The Junos operating system also supports rich routing capabilities, and the Junos operating system's unique architecture provides reliable service operations and manageability, even under the highest loads.

The M Series is a family of high-performance, multiservice edge routers, with advanced routing features that delivers exceptional flexibility and reliability over a wide range of connectivity options without compromise. This allows the rapid deployment of new services while minimizing the total cost of ownership. Designed for high-performance service providers and enterprises, the M7i, M10i, M120, and M320 can be deployed in the small and medium core, multiservice edge, collapsed POP routing, peering, route reflector, campus or WAN gateway applications. Speeds range from DS0 up to OC192/STM-64 and 10 GbE.

The MX Series routers are a family of high-performance Ethernet Services routers with powerful switching and security features that meet network requirements for advanced IP voice and video services, including VoIP, interactive video conferencing, IPTV and multicast services. The MX Series features advanced routing features such as MPLS network virtualization, low latency multicast, advanced QoS, IPv6 and security capabilities (IPsec/Stateful Firewall, NAT and DAA) to accelerate and secure the delivery of time-sensitive traffic.
